About the residency

The aim is to produce the music for 108 versions of the themes of the songs of the album (W.T. “Preaching To The Choir”) in a playful collaborative approach.

108 is a creative open world experiment.

108 is a ritual.

108 is a playground.

108 is abundance and scarcity at once.

108 is a experiment to refill para-social codependency with purpose.

108 stands for the 108 temptations one has to overcome on their way to Nirvana in Buddhism and stands for the bigger questions of why entities of many species and humans specifically engage in repetitions of rather complex procedures such as song and the very nature of us as a performative social creature as part of a greater digital world of content platforms. Specifically how submission to the algorithms content hunger may be seen as a potential for artistic liberation and creativity rather than a necessity to merely stay relevant.

Backstory

Mandy Mozart embodies a pope-like figure who discovered a devastating truth about their existence of being a NPC in a open world game which was designed for cats. Knowing about their true nature triggers a plot of diverse quests in which the character tries hiding their fundamental discovery, differentiating reality from virtuality and exploring their new found super powers that came with the enlightenment. All in all, a playful and utopian phantasy which taps into everyday self-overestimation of male role models within our patriarchic society.

Collaborators

Invited collaborators are musicians, singers (choir + soloists), brass and string instrument players, audio visual artists and game developers who join the residency for a few days each at a time or in groups.

Objectives

That’s two versions of a song recorded and live-streamed on Twitch & YouTube Live every day. One is recorded straight after arrival and one is recorded before leaving the studio. There is absolutely no style required. The music is the mood of the day. A necessity of prayer, a meditation, a ritual to overcome the temptations of the world. To reach a higher state of mind where bodies, minds and machines align and resonate.
